At Blossom Nursery we offer a wide range of different activities. Self selection offers children the opportunity to chose their own activities from a wide range of resources. In order to evaluate the childrens educational progress with us, we do a number of different forms of learning. These include:
Learning Journey – A learning journey is our record of your child’s Educational Development in 6 main areas of learning:
- Personal, Social and Emotional Development (PSED)
- Communication, Language and Literacy
- Knowledge and Understanding of the World
- Problem Solving, Reasoning and Numeracy
- Creative Development
- Physical Development
These learning journeys are then taken with the child when they start Reception.
Scrapbooks – These are a record of your child’s time at the Nursery. Photo’s are taken of your child doing different activities around the Nursery (Messy play, Painting, Arts and Crafts etc) and then are compiled into the Scrapbook. There will also be photo’s to show your child playing with other children around the nursery.
Story Sacks – Story Sacks are where a range of activities is based around a story. For example, a Story Sack could be based on Pets. In this Story Sack there would be a couple of stories about Pets, but would also have activities, such as Spot the Difference with 2 Animals, or a colouring-in exercise for the children to do. Also inside the Story Sack there is a sheet to say what the child liked and disliked about the Story Sack, and about what could be improved.
External Visitors - Often at the Nursery we encourage visitors to come in and talk to the children, and offer them real life learning experiences. External visitors have included:
The Police (Who Showed The Children Their Equipment, Their Car & What Their Job Includes)
Work Experience Students from the Surrounding Schools
Shalini Bhalla (A Bollywood Dancer & Indian Story Teller)
Ballet Dancers (Who Taught The Children Ballet)
Key Persons - Staff are assigned key children to work with, often engaging in one to one work with their key children, and building up a special relationship with them.
